Kepanis, LL.M. regularly works with celebrity clients and has been a legal consultant to FOX News, Fox 5 in New York, and CW11 in New York.  Navigating the wide-ranging and sensitive issues that can arise during divorce, for example child custody or asset division, absolutely requires an experienced and proven attorney by your side.  The firm is committed to providing clients compassionate and committed service to help achieve the best possible results and to help lessen your burden during an emotional, stressful experience.

The No Fault Divorce Option

As of October of 2010, the state of New York enacted legislation allowing individuals to file for no-fault divorce.  The last of the 50 states to do so, the goal of enacting no fault divorce is to help ease the burden and stress that can be placed on people enduring the often painful process of divorce.  Before the law was changed, divorce could only be granted based on one of the following six causes: adultery, cruel and inhuman treatment, abandonment, imprisonment, living apart for one year as per a separation agreement, or living apart for one year as per a judgment of separation.  With the changes now in effect, a spouse need only testify that the marriage has been irretrievably broken for a period of at least 6 months.   Along with the changes allowing for no fault divorce were changes to the rules regarding maintenance payments.  Maintenance is basically payments based on maintaining a standard of living that was established during the marriage.  Calculating maintenance can be yet another complicated part of the divorce process.  It is crucial that you contact the firm as soon as possible to determine how to best move forward with your divorce so you can focus on how best to move forward with your life.
